Thursday 27th August

Hi All,

Bryan is still in isolation and has started on a 10 day course of antibiotics for the bowel infection which has some long name but abbrev to C dyf. One of the symtoms of the infection is nausea as well as a side effect from the antibiotic is nausea, so he is not feeling the best at the moment.

Today he had an xray taken of his knee (the one with the broken ligament from previous accident in 1982) as it has been swollen the last couple of days, don't have results back yet. As I'm typing this he is getting an ultrasound done on his left upper thigh as yesterday it was quite swollen and has a bruise on it, they want to rule out a clot. I'll let you know the results when they are back.

Bryan is still not sleeping very well at night which makes him tired during the day and has little energy also, so they are giving him a sleeping tablet tonight so he gets a descent nights sleep.

Bryan has just been wheeled back from the ultrasound and has been given the all clear, great news! He didn't need any more worries to deal with.

Bye for now,
Julie

  1. Gee Julie you are doing such a great job! The days are long for you and the worries so very real, yet you still make time to keep this blog going.

Something I have just learnt from this very blog - is how important it is to keep the communication channels FULLY open. I had actually noticed the swollen knee last Tuesday 18th Aug when Bryan tried the manual wheel chair for the first time and said nothing.

The swollen knee can be seen on the video, now I wish I had said something. My sincere apologies as I didn’t realise that this could be so serious.

Please keep us informed and if we can do anything at all to help no matter how trivial please do not hesitate to ask.

    Cheers

  2. Hi Jules!

Have been reading the blog recently since our internet is now up and going again.
You are doing a wonderful job and this blog is a fantastic idea!
Just wanted to let you know all the 'Waters Gang' are thinking of you guys constantly and our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Someone once said to me ... "The worst things happen to the best people" and I really think this is true!
Keep up the great(but tough)work and give Bryan a big hug from us all!
Love Mary & Craig Neilan xo

  3. Hi Bryan, Julie, Bec & Erin,
We had planned to drop over to the P.A. this week, but saw that Bryan was in isolation with the 'bowel bug'.
We hope the antibiotics clear it up soon. It's a bit of a blow that the 'serious' antibiotics often end up making you feel crook.
It was good to see the video and hear that Bryan's voice is recovering well (there really is only room for one Darren Lockyer...). Hopefully that will give the voice activated software on the computer less to think about when Bryan uses it. It won't have to sort out whether it's typing in football ot motocross mode...
Great to hear that the swelling in Bryan's thigh wasn't a blood clot & hope the knee swelling settles down too.
Thanks again for the great work you're doing with the blog. We really appreciate the updates and want you all to know that we're behind you all the way. We continue to pray for Bryan's recovery. Hang in there & see you again soon.
Allan, Donna, Mandy, Caitlin & Josh.

  4. Hey Bryan, Julie, Bec and Erin,

Sorry Julie that is has been a while since we spoke - still without a mobile, although I'm starting to like that!! Hope this weekend and the anitbiotics do their job, Bryan, and you are back to yourself. I still look forward to reading this page every night, so that whilst we're not actually there, it feels like we're in touch. I hope to get down this week, depending how things are going. Qld Touch titles in Ipswich this weekend, so an all-weekender - starting to get a little "touched out"!!

    Take care all of you
    Love Maree and the Maccas
